The oil and gas industry was one of the first industries to adopt polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) cutting elements due to the extreme demands of drilling miles of challenging rock formations. In turn, MegaDiamond was among the first companies to develop PDC products specifically engineered for oil and gas drilling.
Tools designed for drilling in the oil and gas industry require aggressive, yet highly durable and long wearing cutting elements. These products must be extremely reliable to allow drillers to successfully and cost-effectively produce a well in a wide range of applications, which can entail high levels of abrasion, impact, or rock strength, as well as the myriad combinations of these elements.

Mining
The mining industry began using diamond materials to overcome limited tool life due to rapid wear while drilling and cutting through hard rock.
In response to this, MegaDiamond introduced diamond dome inserts, which are used in blasthole drilling (DTH and top hammer) and RC exploration drilling. MegaDiamond also developed the first diamond roof bolt drill bits and has continued to develop innovative new solutions for the mining industry. This culture of innovation is one of the reasons MegaDiamond remains the world leader in industrial PCD buttons and cutting elements for the mining industry.
Road Construction
Above ground, diamond inserts can make difficult jobs easier and more efficient. Road construction has typically relied on picks tipped with cemented tungsten carbide for removing or reshaping surface materials. Diamond picks typically deliver 40X increased lifespan over carbide picks, increasing productivity, reducing fuel consumption, and reducing wear and tear on heavy equipment.
